Pre-Production BMW X7 Models Are Rolling Out in South Carolina
BMW Group revealed in December that pre-production models of the new BMW X7 Sports Activity Vehicle were being produced at the company’s Spartanburg, South Carolina facility. This step initiates the year-long process that leads up to the production X7 SAV’s debut at the end of 2018, after it passes a series of endurance tests and test-drives conducted in extreme conditions.
To maximize efficiency and series production, BMW uses the same assembly line for the pre-production BMW X7 as it does the already existing BMW X5 and BMW X6 production models. However, the pre-production model is finished by a team of trained specialists — who, once completed with their work, put a camouflage wrap on the pre-production models before they leave the plant. The conspicuous striped patterns of the wrap are meant to help disguise the SAV’s final design.
In a press release, Knudt Flor, head of the BMW Group Spartanburg plant, said, “We are proud to produce the BMW X7 here in Spartanburg, the home of our X models. This is a very special vehicle and our employees are looking forward to yet a further member of the X family. Together with the BMW X7, a total of five BMW X models will be exported from Spartanburg to all four corners of the globe.”
At BMW of Clear Lake, we take pride in serving BMW drivers from Webster to Houston.
